Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Virginia State Motorcycle Flag 6 x 9 inch - Double-Layered 2-Ply Knitted Polyester - 0.75 inch Pole Sleeve - Fits 3/8 inch Mount Pole for Motorcycle Display

What is the history and design of the Virginia state flag?

The Virginia state flag features the Virginia state seal on a dark blue field. The seal depicts Virtus, the Roman goddess of virtue and bravery, dressed as a warrior and holding a spear and sheathed sword while standing over a fallen tyrant. The Latin motto 'Sic Semper Tyrannis' — Thus Always to Tyrants — was adopted in 1776 and reflects the spirit of the American Revolution. The flag is one of the most historically significant and recognized state flags in the country.

What is a sleeve mount and how does it attach to my motorcycle?

A sleeve mount is a sewn tube along the hoist edge of the flag, rather than grommets. The sleeve slides over the top of your motorcycle flag pole staff and holds the flag securely without clips or hardware. It is more secure on vibrating motorcycle mounts than grommet systems.

What size pole does the 0.75-inch sleeve fit?

The 0.75-inch sleeve is sized for standard 3/8-inch diameter motorcycle flag poles — the most common size for sissy bar mounts, fender staffs, and ATV whip poles.

Why is knitted polyester used for motorcycle flags instead of woven fabric?

Knitted polyester has an open, flexible weave that allows air to pass through and absorbs constant vibration without tearing. Stiff woven fabrics crack and tear at the stress points created by engine vibration and sustained high-speed airflow.

Will this flag wave properly at highway motorcycle speeds?

Yes. The 6x9 size and knitted construction are specifically optimized for motorcycle speeds. For extended highway runs above 70 mph, we recommend removing the flag to prevent accelerated wear on the sleeve and fabric.

How do I clean and store a 2-Ply motorcycle flag?

Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent. Air dry flat before re-mounting on the pole. Store the flag rolled (not folded) to prevent permanent crease lines. Inspect the sleeve opening periodically for wear.
